Now is the Time for Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration in Baltimore City.

This City Needs Jesus Christ.

Dear Friends and Family Members,

348 murders. Violence. Racism. Corruption. You know the story when it comes to Baltimore City. But the end of the story is still yet to be written…

It’s time to change the narrative in this suffering city.

Now is the time to host Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration in the heart of downtown Baltimore—at the Basilica of the Assumption on 409 Cathedral Street.

With your help, the most historic Catholic Cathedral in the United States of America—and an icon in the center of Baltimore City—will become the first Parish in City history to host perpetual Eucharistic Adoration.

We have cycled through politician after politician. Policy after policy. Scandal after scandal. Nothing has changed. You and I know why, don’t we? Man alone is not answer to our problems. Our problems are human and spiritual.

The City needs to turn to Jesus Christ! He is the only one who can unite us and bring about peace.

                Think about it…

Jesus is God. The Eucharist is Jesus. Therefore, the Eucharist is God. What is missing in this great city of Baltimore? God!

               Time to change that!

Once we are able to open our Basilica doors for Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration, this historic church will become a sanctuary where all people can encounter God—not just in the daylight hours, but ALL hours.

Perpetual Adoration will give all people of goodwill the ability to physically come and intercede before God for their families, for an end to racism, for a strengthening of the priesthood, for more vocations, for unity in our Church, for deceased loved ones, and for an end to the violence in our city. This is how our city will change! Jesus changes hearts.

When Jesus is present in a city, that city gets better. It gets stronger.

Ciudad Juarez Went from 3,766 Murders to 256!

Ten years ago, Ciudad Jaruez was the most dangerous city in Mexico (and the world) because of drugs and gang violence. From 2010-2015 there were as many as 3,766 murders a year.

That’s when a group of missionaries, led by Father Patrico Hileman, intervened.

In 2013, they established Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration in the heart of Ciudad Jaurez. These faith-filled people brought Jesus into the center of that violent city—and people came to pray for peace at all hours, day and night. And by 2015 the number of murders dropped to 256. Incredible!

While the local authorities had much to do with this drop, it is also clearly the work of Jesus Christ—the source of all peace, the source of all love, and the source of all hope. As Father Hileman said very clearly, “When a parish adores God day and night, the city is transformed.”

This Mexican city is one of the great turnaround stories in modern times. And it goes to show you: When Jesus is brought into a city, things get better. Period.

Now it’s time to bring Jesus into Baltimore—so our city can get better. Baltimore CAN be the greatest turnaround story in the USA—IF—Jesus is at the center of this great city.

The SECURITY Plan to Give You SAFE Access to Jesus 24/7

Over the last year, my Basilica staff and I have worked out a plan to be able to host Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration here in the heart of Baltimore City—just like they did in Ciudad Juarez. But I know many people are nervous about coming into Baltimore. I get it. But we have a security plan to keep you safe here at the Basilica.

  • Beginning on May 13, 2021 (to commemorate the first of the Fatima Apparitions) the Basilica will begin perpetual adoration. From day 1, we will have 24/7 security. What’s more, a security station will be set up within 6 feet of the adoration chapel. No adorer will ever be alone.
  • During the night and early morning hours, a security guard will be available to meet you at the Mulberry Street gate and personally escort you into the Basilica.
  • We have added security cameras all over our property—inside and out. Our security team will be able to monitor the entire property at once from an iPad.
  • From 8PM to 6AM, free and easy parking on Mulberry Street is almost always available. And once you arrive at the Basilica gate on Mulberry Street, there will be a security box so you punch in a code to gain access. Everything will be lit up. And the walk from the gate to the chapel door is less than 100 yards.

Most of these security measures are already in place! But we need help with one thing…

In order to have Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration at the Basilica—the heart of the local church and the heart of the City of Baltimore—we need to raise money to pay a security guard to keep us safe from 8PM to 8AM. This will cost the Basilica $88,695 a year. That is money we don’t have. This is where I need help.

For the sake of total transparency, it will cost us $20.25 per hour to hire security in the night hours—from 8PM to 8AM. That amounts to $243 a night to have Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration in the City of Baltimore. $243 x 365 days a year = $88,695.

                 So here’s what I am asking…

Would you be willing to fund one night of Adoration in America’s most dangerous city? Would you be willing to contribute $243? If 365 people are willing to do this, we can make Jesus radically available to all on May 13, 2021.

As a tiny parish, we simply do not make enough money to fund this project based on our offertory income alone. We need your help. I know it’s a sacrifice. But think about the GOOD this will do for our city.

Think about how much better everything will be once Jesus Christ is radically present in Baltimore, at the Basilica.

I predict the following things will happen in Baltimore once we begin Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration…

  • Marriages will be strengthened
  • Faith will increase
  • Young people will discern their vocations
  • Millennials and “nones” will come back to the Church
  • We will see an increase of vocations to the priesthood and religious life
  • Non-Catholics will experience the tremendous peace and will come to know the truth of the Eucharist, and then become Catholic themselves.

But the greatest effects of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration in Baltimore City will be twofold…

  1. There will be a massive reduction in violent crimes and murders
  2. And there will be unity among all people.

I’ve already shown you what happened in the Mexican city, Ciudad Juarez, once Jesus was brought into that dangerous place. The murders plummeted. The same will happen in Baltimore. Just wait…

But the other effect that I foresee as a result of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration is UNITY. Archbishop Lori has provided a prayer intention for each day of the week to foster unity in our city and Archdiocese. Those intentions are as follows:

Monday: An end to racism in Baltimore City and in our world

Tuesday: Vocations to the priesthood and religious life

Wednesday: A strengthening of marriages and families

Thursday: For the consolation of all our sick and suffering—especially at the City hospitals

Friday: An end to the murders and violence in Baltimore; including the closing of all Abortion Clinics

Saturday: That Mary, the Mother of God, will heal all victims of abuse

Sunday: For a great knowledge and love of the Eucharist in the Catholic Church

Everyone who comes to adore Jesus in the Eucharist at the Basilica will be totally united in both prayer and in intention. This is where our power comes from as Catholics. Our power comes from union with Christ and with one another. This is how we will change the culture, the city, and the world. We will change everything by being united in Christ.

                Why The Basilica, Why Now?

Think about this for a moment…

The Basilica is the FIRST Catholic Cathedral in the United States. It is also an icon of Baltimore City. Said another way: The Basilica is the heart of both the Church and the State. So…

Why have adoration now at the Basilica?

Jesus wants to heal us from the heart. And guess what? May 2021 is our 200th Anniversary as America’s first Catholic Cathedral! This is a monumental occasion. God is waiting to bless this City.

By having Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration at the Basilica, Jesus will establish Himself at the heart of our church and our state. It is from the heart that the lifeblood flows to the rest of the body. In other words, put Jesus in the heart of the Church and our State and the lifeblood of grace will flow not just throughout Maryland, but to the entire country.

As James Cardinal Gibbons said that the Basilica of the Assumption is to the Church in America, “what St. Peter’s Basilica is to the faithful of the Church Universal.” And papal Biographer George Weigel said, “No other Catholic edifice in America can claim to have seen so much history made inside its walls.”

Having adoration at the mother church of the Nation will have far-reaching effects that we cannot even fathom right now. Just remember: our country is dedicated to Mary. This is Mary’s Basilica. She wants this too!

And if all of that isn’t enough, let me give you one more reason to support Eucharistic Adoration at the Basilica…

An End to Planned Parenthood 3 Blocks Away

Three blocks away from the Basilica is a Planned Parenthood—an abortuary where babies are murdered every week. Jesus came to give life, not to take it from the innocent. Let’s make the Basilica the place where we stand up for all life. By coming together every week to pray in front of the fount of life, I know that it is only a matter of time before Planned Parenthood is forced to close its doors. Life will triumph over death. Light will overtake the darkness. But we NEED the light…

We need Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. And so I ask you…

Even if you do not live near Baltimore will you help bring Jesus into this suffering city? Will you support adoration? Will you support our efforts to unify the Church and the State in Christ? Will you support our prayers to end abortion, violence, racism, murder, and every other sin against humanity?

Would you be willing to make a one-time $243-gift so we can open our Basilica doors 24/7 to the people of Baltimore?

To be able to have Perpetual Adoration in time for our 200th Anniversary will be the greatest gift we can give to God and our great country. Please help us make this gift. Even if you cannot give $243 once a year, any gift will be appreciated and needed!

We need a total of $88,695 to get started. If we are able to raise more than that (which I hope we can!), every cent will be used to bring Christ to Baltimore.

Thank you in advance for your generosity, your faith and your support.

May God bless you! And May the Eucharistic Lord make Baltimore the next great turnaround story in our country.

                In Christ,

                Fr. James Boric
