MASS WITH CANTOR AND ORGAN
The 8:00AM cantor Mass has many sung elements of the liturgy, including the Mass Ordinary and Processional, Offertory, and Recessional hymns. The Communion antiphon is sung by the cantor in English. Congregational items are taken from the St. Michael Hymnal.
SOLEMN MASS WITH THE BASILICA SCHOLA CANTORUM
The Basilica’s most solemn weekly liturgy, the celebration of the 10:30AM Sunday Mass attempts to best reflect of the tradition of the Roman church through its adherence to liturgical documents and, more importantly, its deference to the Tradition of Holy Mother Church. Music for this Mass is provided by the Schola Cantorum, which sings the Gregorian Introit and Communion antiphons of the day and motets and polyphonic Mass settings from the canon of Roman Catholic art music. During choral recess from Corpus Christi to Assumption, a cantor sings this Mass. Care is taken to choose music that reflects the scriptural texts from the lectionary and Roman Gradual for each Sunday and Feast, and Latin, the language of the Church, is the primary language sung during this Mass. Congregational items are taken from the St. Michael Hymnal.
The Basilica celebrates Sung Vespers at 4:30PM every Sunday. On the third Sunday of each month, the music for this liturgy is provided by the Basilica Schola Cantorum, which sings a choral prelude, leads the singing of psalmody, and sings the Magnificat. On all other Sundays, this liturgy is led by an organist and a cantor. 5:00PM Sunday evening Mass follows immediately after the conclusion of Vespers.
SUNG MASS WITH ORGAN AND CANTOR
Immediately following Sung Vespers, the Sunday 5:00PM Mass includes two hymns, a sung Ordinary, and a Latin Communion antiphon. On the third Sunday of each month, the Schola Cantorum sings this Mass.
MASS WITH THE BASILICA PARISH CHOIR
The Basilica celebrates a monthly First Saturday Mass at 10:00AM for the Immaculate Heart of Mary for which the Basilica Paris Choir provides the music. Mass is preceded by an hour of confession and Eucharistic adoration (9:00am - 10:00am) and ends with the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.
